How Kickboxing Has Changed My Life for the Better!

View this post on Instagram

#girlsjustwannahaveguns💪 Turning my #jigglypuff into #wigglytuff 💖😜it was red carpet night at #iLoveKickboxing and I learned exactly how difficult it was to do burpees in a dress! I’ve definitely gained a lot more strength and endurance from kickboxing (in the beginning I couldn’t even do one pushup, but now I do double classes some nights just for fun like a cute psycho 😅🙃) I’m on track to hitting my goal weight this May🥊🥰❣️ • • • • • • #turningmypuffintotuff #kickboxlikeagirl #ilkbnation #ilkb #kickboxinggirl #redcarpetnight #sequindress #mermaiddress #forever21 #rosegoldgloves #kickboxing #rosegold #iridescentdress #iridescent #fitnessmotivation #newyearnewyou #weightlossjourney #changealife #goalgetter #ilkb #djnight

I started kickboxing atthe end of May in 2018, and it was the best desision ever!

There are so many ways kickboxing at ILKB has changed my life, here are a few:

Weight Loss

After I started counting calories combined with exercise I have lost almost 16 pounds since August! I weighed 106 pounds in freshman year of college. After I graduated my metabolism stopped, I was drinking too much, and without proper diet and exercise I weighed over 160 pounds! In August I limited my calorie intake to about 1,360 a day and I set a goal for myself to go to kickboxing at least four times a week.

I’ve been steadily losing 1 – 1.5 pounds a week the healthy way. I may splurge here and there on my calories at parties and special events, I’m only human. I’m not depriving my body of nutrients and I make sure I always feel satisfied after a meal! My realistic goal weight is 120 pounds and at this rate I’ll be there at the latest in May of next year!

I sometimes do double classes back to back. After my first class ever I was so sore that I could barely go up the stairs. I was able to complete my first full Tough Mudder (~10 miles, 20+ obstacles), something I never thought I would ever be able to do. Yes, it took me over four hours but I’m so happy that I finished strong.

Healthier Heart

After getting the heart-rate monitor I realized that my resting heart-rate was a little high (over 120 bpm). After getting into better shape it has lowered significantly. One lady who checks my heartrate when I donate platelets even said, “be a little more excited, why don’t you”.

Mindfulness and being more aware definitely helps. I work harder with the monitor on because I’m constantly trying to burn more calories than before. It’s very convenient to get the e-mails after every class that give you full workout summary. I’m in constant competition with the person I was the day before.

Improved Mood

It’s basically impossible to leave after class and feel negatively or in a bad mood. I feel so awesome and accomplished after each class because I’m getting closer and closer to my fitness goals! There is such a supportive group of kickboxing instructors and peers at my studio. We’re at different fitness levels with different lifestyles, but we all have a common goal: To be fitter, stronger, happier versions of ourselves!

Disney Karaoke 🎤🎵🎶 DIY Costumes WALL-E and EVE

Disney Karaoke

The Hop Knot in Southington held it’s second annual Disney Karaoke event on Wednesday, August 5, 2018.

I am going to sound like a crazy person, but I made both a WALL-E and EVE costume the night before! I had a lot of boxes laying around from my online shopping obsession and I figured I would put them to good use. Literally, before my kickboxing class I walked into the craft store intending to just buy white paint for EVE and I ended up buying the equivalent amount of art supplies for a small art class. Both costumes were made of cardboard, duct tape, glue, acrylic paint, and of course *love*.

Costumes

The costumes were a hit! People asked for photos with us. This was my second time going to Disney Karaoke and it was a blast! As expected, there were a lot of people in costumes. The Disney fandom is so supportive and spirited. There was a lot of Disneybounding at the event. For instance, my friend dressed up as disneybound Cinderella. I coincidentally wore my
Yes.Fit Cinderella virtual race challenge shirt. It seriously wasn’t planned. If you’re new to Yes.Fit, use 4LJ5Glfo during check-out for a discount!

The Hop Knot had a Disney themed menu for the night. There were “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” pretzels (that isn’t a Disney film, but who cares) and “Kronk’s Spinach Puffs”. There were fun cocktails like the “Himalayan Snow-cone” and the “You’re Welcome” inspired by the film Moana.

We were able to sing “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” from Hercules (my favorite sassy woman Disney song) and “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from Lion King. My boyfriend didn’t realize that “Life is a Highway” was a Disney song (Cars) and this time he couldn’t pick a song for us to duet because “I Can Show You the World” was already taken twice before we could request it. Maybe one day I’ll finally get him to finish watching Mulan, etc… 😉 since he doesn’t have many Disney songs in his repertoire. Overall, it was a fun night and I’ll definitely come again next time. What’s your favorite go-to Disney song?

BeerGasm Spring Indoor Block Party at Witchdoctor Brewing 🍻🏭🍽🗝

BeerGasm

The Southington Chamber of  Commerce held the BeerGasm Spring Indoor Block Party at the Witchdoctor Brewing Company on Thurday May 10, 2018. I love attending events with food and alcohol (if you couldn’t already tell). Also, I am a huge fan of supporting local businesses. In other words, when you do, you support a dream.

The admission price included a free glass and a first free pint from Witchdoctor Brewing Company. I tried the Tropica double IPA and my boyfriend got the Haze-A-Faire New England-Style IPA. However, mine tasted better and not just because it had the highest alcohol content. It tasted like a lot of care was put into the brewing process. Not to be cheesy, but you can actually taste the love and care that the people from Witchdoctor Brewing put in. The Tropica tasted like summertime in a glass.

Food

I’d be lying if I told you that Ideal Tavern‘s duck confit egg roll wasn’t one of the best egg rolls I ever had. Trust me, I know egg rolls). Definitely have to have dinner there soon. They handed me a menu and I was drooling, everything sounds so delicious, artsy, creative, and perfect for a future date night. We bought two bags of jerky from Mister B’s Jerky Co., a local jerky store in the town center of Southington. We got beef jerky in Cajun and BBQ flavors and will swing by the shop to replenish our supply when we inevitably run out.

We also got a free key-shaped bottle opener from Escapism. They are an up-and-coming escape room opening in June. The four themes to choose from: nuclear meltdown, haunted encounter, Egyptian tomb, and bank heist. I cannot wait to be able to test my puzzle-solving abilities when they open.

Music

The live band sounded great and their covers of 80’s hits were great. The aesthetic of the venue itself was beautiful. The brewery has an exposed ceiling, renovated brick-covered factory, and modern/contemporary vibe. The tables suspended with wire caught my boyfriend’s eye and he called them a masterful piece of engineering. He builds houses for a living.

Final Thoughts on BeerGasm

In conclusion, the BeerGasm event was a wonderful little showcase of some of the unique, wonderful local businesses we have to offer in Southington, Connecticut and I look forward to the next one!

“Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out”- James B. Conant 🐢 In other words, remember to be bold, be brave, and beYOUtiful. Even if you’re just like a turtle and you have a shell, step out and don’t be afraid to be uncomfortable. Fortune favors the bold and you’ll never know if you don’t try. You only live once, but if you live it right you’ll only only need one. There’s no rush. In fact, turtles live to be over one hundred years old. Science Straight Up Event: Date Night🔬🦋🐛🌱💫

Science Straight Up: Fresh and Green- Connecticut Science Center in Hartford, CT

There’s nothing like attending a 21+ event full of like-minded, inquisitive adults and interacting with exhibits on green science and other scientific concepts. A drink or two is also a plus. The gin promo girl hooked me and my boyfriend up with an extra shot in my cocktail so our evening started off pretty well.

There was a machine that detected brain waves. The more relaxed you were, the higher and longer a ball would levitate in a tube. I was frustrated because my boyfriend won at first, but we found out that my side had been less sensitive. So when we switched sides and I did way better than he did.

My boyfriend tried to run against a real-time simulated screen of a paraplegic athlete and lost. I don’t blame him, that guy was really fast. The butterfly conservatory was so amazing; I even got to see a live Blue Morpho butterfly fluttering by among countless others. The science center had a bunch of plants, moths, pupa, and caterpillars on display. We witnessed the uncommon occurrence of a caterpillar pupating right before our eyes under a microscope connected to a screen.

They had various workshops on cannabis and medical marijuana and a few strains were on display under microscopes. And at the end of the night we explored the universe in a space travel simulator. I’m a huge fan of seeing all the different colors of the galaxy. Overall, I highly recommend the science straight up event at the CT science center for a date night with your nerdy other half. There’s something for everyone!

Something Old, Something New

Something old, some thing new. My boyfriend accidentally agreed for us to attend two events happening at the same time on the same day. Our options were to either celebrate an old marriage (50th anniversary) or a new marriage (Jack and Jill). We were the only couple brave enough to offend both parties and make an appearance at both. In other words, leaving a party early/showing up late at another). It all worked out though.

The first event was the Jack & Jill. My boyfriend joked about how he literally changed the diapers of the groom-to-be and how he was getting old. They gave away sugar eggs as party favors, held raffles with tons of cool prizes, and had a 50/50.

The anniversary party was at the couple’s house instead of a restaurant. They had old wedding photos hanging from balloons, they recreated their wedding party photos, and there were plenty of refreshments. There was a bar, cupcakes, chocolate fountain, candy, etc… Both events were beautiful and it is great to see how love can be celebrated with friends and family, old or new.

When you’re accidentally double-booked for events do you celebrate a new marriage or an old one? Something old or something new?
