Icebreaker Travel-Related Fun

world map

This icebreaker was used by my boss at a Global Ambassadors meeting (which I help co-host as an intern at Uhart) and I thought I’d share it because I thought it was a great, reusable idea to get people excited about travel.

First, use a world map and attach it to a corkboard. Second, supply all participants with pins in six different colors (we used blue, orange, yellow, green, pink, and purple) give them one of each.

Then have them place their pins according to the meanings of each color.

For example:

white board color coded
  • Blue: Where are your ancestors from? (For me it was Vietnam)
  • Orange: What country do you want to visit/ study abroad in? (I picked Spain)
  • Yellow: Favorite place you’ve visited (Australia)
  • Green: Favorite film/book that has stayed with you (pin the location) (I picked nowhere because the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series takes place in space :P)
  • Pink: Where is your favorite food from? (Japan because I love sushi)
  • Purple: What country would you like to learn more about? (I picked Greece)

Finally, go through one color at a time and have everyone discuss where they put their pins and why. It really gets a conversation going.
