Red Hair

Advertisements

Originally, I used to get red hair by bleaching it and then adding the color in after. Unfortunately, not only is this damaging to hair, but it tends to leave the texture dry and prone to breakage if the change is too drastic (dark to blonde). Luckily, my hair is naturally thick and there was no long-term damage. Overall, if your hair is finicky, some hairdressers would recommend going to salons with professional products rather than wasting time and money to fix a blotched boxed color job. You could also consider a blonde wig if you want!

However, I prefer coloring my hair at home, and have had no major issues. Therefore, I’ve used Ion permanent dye in ‘Black Cherry‘ and have been using lower developer strengths for each touch-up. Higher developers lift more and usually provide lighter colors. I prefer a darker shade of purplish red, but it also depends on your own preference.

I used a 10v developer

As a result, my roots are well hidden now and just as a disclaimer, red is the hardest color to sustain. In other words, it fades quickly and I can guarantee that this time next month it will be a completely different shade. As of writing this, Sally’s beauty stores only has limited shampoos for red hair, but I’d recommend ordering Tressa Watercolors online for a shampoo that revives red shades after every wash.

Additionally, if you want a brighter red then use a higher developer.

Advertisements

Perhaps you’ve just finished trying sprinkle lips and now you’re thinking to yourself, “Well, now what do I do with all these extra sprinkles?” Have no fear, simply add a bit of sprinkles to your pancakes for a fun twist on a breakfast classic. Above all, funfetti pancakes are a fun way to start the morning.

You’ll need:

  • Pancake batter
    • 2 cups of Bisquick mix
    • 1 cup of milk
    • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup of sprinkles
  • Butter or oil for the frying pan
  • Toppings
    • Whipped cream
    • Sliced strawberries

Instructions:

  • Prepare the pancake batter
  • Add the sprinkles to the batter and mix well
  • Add a layer of butter or oil to a frying pan at about medium to medium-high heat
  • As soon as the pan is hot and the butter/oil is starting to slightly boil pour pancake mix in small, circular portions, flip when the bottom is golden brown, and wait until the other side is fully cooked as well before removing it from the pan and serving on a plate.
  • Repeat as necessary with the rest of the batter or until you are satisfied with the size of your stack of pancakes.
  • Finally, decorate with strawberries and whipped cream and you’re ready to serve.

I made these multi-color funfetti pancakes for my 8-year old sister and my 10-year old brother for breakfast one day before they had to go to school. Overall, it was quick, easy and they gave my siblings a sweet and delicious way to start off their school day.

Matcha Tea Mask

Obviously, I know I kind of look like a scary, green alien or Shrek in this picture. My mother gave me this recipe to try this facial matcha tea mask recipe she found on an Asian beauty blog. It may look scary, but it works wonders! There are only three ingredients and they are all natural.

Sprinkle Lips

Want to try a new, sweet look? Try rainbow sprinkle lips. Warning: this look can get a little messy and it’s really hard to resist licking the tasty sprinkles off. Nonpareils rainbow sprinkles are my favorite type and they would work best for trying this look. Don’t be afraid to experiment with other types of sprinkles too!

You’ll need:

  • lip-gloss (any kind will do, the stickier the better)
  • nonpareils rainbow sprinkles
  • 1 plate

It’s really easy! Put sprinkles on a plate, apply a generous amount of lip-gloss on your lips, and place your lips on the plate of sprinkles. Finally, remove the excess sprinkles and you’re ready to go.

Obviously, this look is just for fun and won’t last very long at a party, but enjoy it while it last and at least you have a light snack ;P. This look is lip-smacking good!

Calendar Unveiling 2015 Women For Change

Women For Change: “Riveting Women” Calendar Unveiling 2015

I was part of the seventh annual Women for Change calendar. The theme was “Riveting Women” in honor of the late Mary Doyle Keefe, the model for Rosie the Riveter. She passed away in early 2015 at the age of 92. The image of Rosie the Riveter is iconic. Also, we were lucky enough to have Mary Doyle Keefe’s daughter, Mary Ellen Keefe, in attendence at the unveiling.

For my description in the calendar I wrote that I am, “a senior honors marketing major who works as an intern at Uhart’s study abroad office helping students travel to the country of their dreams”. We were asked to finish the statement, “I am riveting because…”. My picture was accompanied by the following paragraph for the month of November:

My Photo and Quote in the Calendar

Women’s Ultimate Frisbee

Also, I was featured for being a member of the University of Hartford’s Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team with a few of my teammates at one of our tournaments.

Charity: Part of the Proceeds Went Towards Sexual Assault Crisis Services

Women for Change partnered with the YWCA New Britain’s Sexual Assault Crisis Service  (SACS) which offers confidential assistance to survivors of sexual assault, a 24-hour crisis hotline, campus advocates, counselor advocate training, support groups, and other servicesThe Women for Change calendar costed $10, with 10% of all proceeds going to SACS.

At the unveiling there were also boxes to collect clothing donations for SACS. SACS provides clothing for women who go to the hospital following a sexual assault because they are not allowed to leave with the clothes they came into the hospital in.

In the Media:

Overall, I am so proud to have been part of such a great calendar with such wonderful, riveting women for a good cause.
