When the warm weather hits, you gladly swap your heavy sweaters for tank tops, exchange your boots for strappy sandals and the fluffy duvet for something a bit more lightweight.
But what about your skincare routine? Do you change that up in the summer, or do you stick to the same routine all through the year?
Here, we look at some of the things you might want to do to make sure your skin is sorted for summer.
Switching Your Skincare For Summer
Stop the sweat
No one wants to sweat, but we all do. One of the best ways to deal with sweat, especially under the arms, is by choosing a reliable deodorant. Many people are now switching to natural deodorant – it is better for your skin and for your environment. However, some find that they suffer from a natural deodorant rash. If this is you, don’t worry – there are plenty of things that you can do to ease it.
Ease up on the exfoliating
Exfoliating and getting rid of the top, dead layer of skin may leave you with a glowing and bright complexion, but it can also make your skin a lot more sensitive to the sun, so be careful. However, if you spend a lot of time outside, you still need to exfoliate since dead skin combined with sweat and dirt is a failproof recipe for clogged pores and spots. Stick to exfoliating once or twice a week and use a gentle scrub with smooth particles.
Say no to the night cream
You know the routine – daytime, a nice light cream. Nighttime, a rich thick cream. However, when the heat is on, you might want to put the night creams to bed for a while. Imagine it as a thick blanket for your skin – you just don’t need it. In the winter, the cold air and drying conditions mean that your skin needs the extra moisture, In the summer, the humidity takes care of that for you. You can even get away with a simple serum on those really warm sticky days.
Clean up your cleansing
When your skin is oily, a creamy, hydrating cleanser just will not be enough. Your cleanser needs to have some sort of de-greasing effect-especially at night when you have a day worth of makeup and grime and sweat to get rid of. Swap to a gentle foaming formula that will break down excess sebum and sweat.
Tone up troubles
Chuck those harsh, skin-stripping astringents of the past that relied mainly on alcohol to dry out the skin in the bin and pick up something a bit more gentle. These days toners use a calmer approach, using botanical ingredients and essential oils that work as natural astringents while also hydrating and soothing skin. After you have cleansed your skin wipe a toner-soaked cotton pad over oil-prone areas like your t-zone
By swapping out products and switching up your skincare routine in the summer, you will find your skin looks bright and feels great.

What is your Advice for Switching Skincare in the Summer?
Think your brand is perfect for Honeybunnytwee? In other words, do you have a product you would like reviewed or shared? This is my portfolio of brand collaborations and ad campaigns that I have previously participated in. If you are a makeup or beauty brand in particular, I’d prefer promoting your brand if your products are cruelty-free. Obviously, I’m looking for brands that align or match the values and style of my personal Lifestyle and Beauty Blog. Let’s collaborate!
with 2 kids i barely get time to take care of my skin but as you have suggested I make sure to expholiate atleast once a week.
I had no idea that I should have a different skin care treatment in summer and winter. Say no to night cream has been a revelation. It really makes sense. Tank you for sharing. I will definitely follow this advice.
These are some good tip and it’s also important to moisturize after a deep cleansing!
sunscreens helps a lot for me, those spf 30 or 60 that is nice on face & body
My skin care routine is pretty minimal overall. A gentle facial cleanser, a bit of witch hazel as a toner a decent lotion. I’ve got very sensitive skin so I have to be very careful with what I use on my skin. I use dove deodorant because I was finding those natural deodorants just couldn’t hold up to these hot Florida summer days and I’m not really one that sweats very much at all. I do agree, a heavy cream on your face isn’t great for the summer, I’ve always found it leads to more clogged pours during the summer. Light weight is the way to go for sure.
This advice is pretty good, though I think it’s dependent on your environment, your skin condition, and your lifestyle
Oh! I have oily sjin and didn’t know the exfoliation ist contra-productive! Yikes, I’m easing on that ASAP because maybe that’s why I was breaking out. Thank you!.
thanks so much for this detailed skincare for summer. Personally I would think to add in suncreen also. I learnt from your sharing to stop sweat & remove night cream.
cheers, siennylovesdrawing
I totally agree with you on laying off of the night cream! Tbh I hardly put on any cream during the summer months because it get’s so humid and I’m always sweating – so I limit it. But definitely during the night I abstain from it mostly.
I barely have one skin care routine. I never thought to switch your skincare during summer or fall. I really need to get a better routine. LOL
I’ve never thought to change my skincare throughout the year! With the addition of masks and acne, this might actually be a great idea!
great tips! I also give up on night cream for summer, I use concentrates for it. Also summer is a great time to experiment for me, sun is very helpful for skin and looks and feels better than during winter so I can afford a little issue or mistake without much trouble
