BeerGasm Spring Indoor Block Party at Witchdoctor Brewing 🍻🏭🍽🗝

BeerGasm

The Southington Chamber of  Commerce held the BeerGasm Spring Indoor Block Party at the Witchdoctor Brewing Company on Thurday May 10, 2018. I love attending events with food and alcohol (if you couldn’t already tell). Also, I am a huge fan of supporting local businesses. In other words, when you do, you support a dream.

The admission price included a free glass and a first free pint from Witchdoctor Brewing Company. I tried the Tropica double IPA and my boyfriend got the Haze-A-Faire New England-Style IPA. However, mine tasted better and not just because it had the highest alcohol content. It tasted like a lot of care was put into the brewing process. Not to be cheesy, but you can actually taste the love and care that the people from Witchdoctor Brewing put in. The Tropica tasted like summertime in a glass.

Food

I’d be lying if I told you that Ideal Tavern‘s duck confit egg roll wasn’t one of the best egg rolls I ever had. Trust me, I know egg rolls). Definitely have to have dinner there soon. They handed me a menu and I was drooling, everything sounds so delicious, artsy, creative, and perfect for a future date night. We bought two bags of jerky from Mister B’s Jerky Co., a local jerky store in the town center of Southington. We got beef jerky in Cajun and BBQ flavors and will swing by the shop to replenish our supply when we inevitably run out.

We also got a free key-shaped bottle opener from Escapism. They are an up-and-coming escape room opening in June. The four themes to choose from: nuclear meltdown, haunted encounter, Egyptian tomb, and bank heist. I cannot wait to be able to test my puzzle-solving abilities when they open.

Music

The live band sounded great and their covers of 80’s hits were great. The aesthetic of the venue itself was beautiful. The brewery has an exposed ceiling, renovated brick-covered factory, and modern/contemporary vibe. The tables suspended with wire caught my boyfriend’s eye and he called them a masterful piece of engineering. He builds houses for a living.

Final Thoughts on BeerGasm

In conclusion, the BeerGasm event was a wonderful little showcase of some of the unique, wonderful local businesses we have to offer in Southington, Connecticut and I look forward to the next one!

“Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out”- James B. Conant 🐢 In other words, remember to be bold, be brave, and beYOUtiful. Even if you’re just like a turtle and you have a shell, step out and don’t be afraid to be uncomfortable. Fortune favors the bold and you’ll never know if you don’t try. You only live once, but if you live it right you’ll only only need one. There’s no rush. In fact, turtles live to be over one hundred years old. Take the time to slow down and enjoy everything life has to offer. It’s okay to rest every once in a while, but it’s not okay to quit. Live your best life!

Science Straight Up Event: Date Night🔬🦋🐛🌱💫

Science Straight Up: Fresh and Green- Connecticut Science Center in Hartford, CT

There’s nothing like attending a 21+ event full of like-minded, inquisitive adults and interacting with exhibits on green science and other scientific concepts. A drink or two is also a plus. The gin promo girl hooked me and my boyfriend up with an extra shot in my cocktail so our evening started off pretty well.

There was a machine that detected brain waves. The more relaxed you were, the higher and longer a ball would levitate in a tube. I was frustrated because my boyfriend won at first, but we found out that my side had been less sensitive. So when we switched sides and I did way better than he did.

My boyfriend tried to run against a real-time simulated screen of a paraplegic athlete and lost. I don’t blame him, that guy was really fast. The butterfly conservatory was so amazing; I even got to see a live Blue Morpho butterfly fluttering by among countless others. The science center had a bunch of plants, moths, pupa, and caterpillars on display. We witnessed the uncommon occurrence of a caterpillar pupating right before our eyes under a microscope connected to a screen.

They had various workshops on cannabis and medical marijuana and a few strains were on display under microscopes. And at the end of the night we explored the universe in a space travel simulator. I’m a huge fan of seeing all the different colors of the galaxy. Overall, I highly recommend the science straight up event at the CT science center for a date night with your nerdy other half. There’s something for everyone!

Daffodil Festival 2018🌼Daffodils are the Trumpets of Spring 🎺 ☀️🌱✨

Hubbard Park Daffodil Festival- Meriden, CT

There’s nothing like a walk in the park on a fresh spring day. Hubbard Park hosted it’s annual Daffodil Festival (April 28-29th). It included a craft fair, amusement park rides, fair food tents, and pathways adorned by beautiful, bright bunches of daffodils. You can look at the pretty flowers. However, the park discourages visitors from picking any blooms by implementing a $98 fine per flower (that’s an expensive bouquet!).

The festival is back for 2022! Go to their official website for updates.
