Ensure You Have Kissable Lips This Summer

Regardless of whether it is a romantic kiss or one of greeting when you meet up with a good friend, no one wants to kiss lips that look chapped and sore. In fact, some people will shy away from your face in case there is some infection they do not want to catch.

Kissing can be fun, it can be sexy and for some people it is essential. You need to ensure that your lips are kissable this summer if you do not want people to pull away instead of giving you a smacker. Taking care of your lips will also make them more comfortable for you, as sore lips can be something you do not need to suffer.

There are ways to make sure that your lips are always inviting, and here are just a few tips to help you on your way.

Stay Hydrated With Water

Drink lots as water. Your lips are one of the first places dehydration will show and you should try to fit in at least eight glasses a day. If you are not too keen on plain water, add a slice of lemon for some flavor. Water is a must for everyone who wants to stay healthy and glowing and that includes keeping your lips in good condition.

Dehydrated lips will start to look thin and will soon start to lose their color and fullness.

Don’t Lick Your Lips

Try to avoid licking your lips. Saliva dry’s out very quickly and it is not as hydrating as water. If it was, all we would all need to do is lick our lips and swallow, but that does not work the way water does. In fact, licking your lips can make them dry out and that is what you are trying to prevent.

Some people lick their lips because it has become a habit, and if this is the case for you, it is a habit you need to break.

Exfoliate Your Lips

This is something you have to do gently to be certain that you do not damage your lips, but it will help to make them smoother than they have ever been. There are two ways to do this. Firstly, you could dip a soft toothbrush in some olive oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil and gently rub your lips in a circular motion. You will start to see the dead skin flake off, but never pull at it or you will make your lips sore. Try this for a couple of days to remove all the dead skin from your lips.

Another way is to mix some sugar with olive oil, and honey if you want to, and rub your lips in small circles as you would with the toothbrush. Whichever way you choose to smooth your lips, you should always treat them with care and be careful not t over exfoliate.

Use A Lip Balm For Protection

After you have exfoliated your lips you should apply a lip balm to seal them. Use ones with natural oils, shea butter, aloe vera or honey as these will help to moisturize your lips. If they start to feel dry throughout the day, apply some more lip balm, as it is needed.

Lip balms can do so much good for your lips and you should always have some with you in case they start to feel dry or sore at any time.

Lipsticks and Glosses That Last The Day

You should only use good quality lipsticks and glosses or you may undo all the good work you have done with your lips so far. Click here to see a range of lips glosses that will stay looking good all day long. Apply one of these after exfoliating for lips that will look amazing all day long.

Lip-glosses that stay that way are the best option, as then you do not have to keep removing and reapplying them.

Night Care Can Be Crucial

Night can be a great time to give your lips some tender loving care. The dry air caused by heating or air conditioning systems can dry out your lips, as can licking them while you are asleep. Apply a moisturizing lip balm before bed to prevent this from happening. This night protection will mean that you wake up with soft and supple lips that will be a much better start to the day.

Treat your lips with care and they will always look good and inviting, and they will be kissable all summer long.

I’ve been a user of lip balms and chap sticks for longer than I can remember due to chapped lips so I had no idea I was on the cutting edge of lip care. I always use it at night as well because my lips dry out especially in the winter. A definite problem for me is more water intake. I only drink water for the most part but never enough. Great tips for lip care and kissable lips! No one wants to kiss dry chalky lips!

Dry lips is always a challenge for me in the winter. But you are right, even in the warmer weather, you still have to do these things to have full healthy lips.

These are great reminders. Dry lips are no fun. It seems like they only get worse and worse if you let them chap.

Great tips here for maintaining the appearance and health of your lips. I do agree that drinking enough water is definitely important and therefore deserves a place at the top of your list – plus this is really good for the health of the rest of your body as well.

The lip licking though– is my constant struggle. It was only lately I discovered the habit and I’ve been trying to stop it but I still catch myself doing it every now and then. As for the rest, I try to do them as often as I can.

I have found that I need to pay attention to how certain lipsticks and glosses make my lips feel. Some feel waxy and bad afterwards and I stay away from them. I love the Thrive Causemetics line.

I always carry chapstick as I hate dry lips. My lips always crack when they are dry so I keep chapsticks all around the house and car and always have one where-ever I go.

I like to use the Glossy Gloss from Lipsense. It has helped me over what other lip balms and chapsticks have done. I agree that you definitely need to use something. And my water intake definitely needs to be improved. That helps big time!

Great tips! If you’re out in the sun a lot this summer, using one with SPF is great too. Nothing worse than sunburned lips.

Exfoliating with a sugar scrub and then moisturizing is so beneficial. My lips are really dry when winter begins, and doing this always helps out. Finding a good moisturizing lipstick, gloss, or balm is also helpful.

Lip tint and mascara are two things I rarely leave the house without wearing. I have never exfoliated my lips…never thought of it to be honest. I rarely have dry lips (probably because there is almost always something on them!). I love the Burt’s Bees products. They are moisturizing, tasteless, natural, and give just enough color to not be overbearing for daytime use (gym, work, etc.) Dark and shiny is for evenings out in my mind…don’t want too much of a good thing or it’ll get boring and unnoticed by your mate I feel. Although, mine won’t kiss me if… Read more »
