Avoid Smoking

Any exposure to tobacco is bad. Whether it’s consumption or second-hand smoke it is still one of the most common reasons for premature death because of diseases that affect the heart and lungs and can cause cancers. It’s never too late to put a stop to smoking, however long you’ve been smoking. It’s always a good time stop. If you really struggle to stop try getting some professional help. There are all sorts of methods you can use, even things like hypnosis. When you stop smoking, the risks start to decrease straight away and rapidly too. Fter just a few years it’s almost as if you haven’t smoked at all.

Eat Well

A good diet not only helps with things like energy levels it helps to keep you in shape, feel great about yourself and manage your weight. It can also protect against nasty diseases. It’s advised that you have a balanced diet, this can sometimes be different for each individual person. Try eating small portions of lean meats. Plan your meals to include vegetables and healthy carbs such as wholegrain pasta, rice and cereals. Add the right amount of dairy and you’re on the track. Some people choose and need to add supplements into their diet

Monitor Any Problems

It’s always advisable to make a note of any problems that you have especially if they’re reoccurring. If you ignore them or don’t make note it can be difficult when you visit the doctor to explain what your symptoms have been. Not to mention the fact that ignoring something is never a good thing. It’s better to find out the answers, especially if it ends up that you are only suffering from migraines and that your brain is fine. You may even find that there are alternative methods such as a Daith piercing as a migraine cure. You should learn more about daith piercing before committing to having one.

Include Physical Activity Daily

If you want to protect your health and maintain a healthy weight one of the best things you can do is to include activity as a daily part of your life. This doesn’t mean you need to go for a run every single day. It just means that you should make some smarter choices. Try taking the stairs rather than the lift, walk to the shop rather than drive or cycle to work if it’s close enough. Exercise helps your heart, lungs, and blood vessels to function properly and can help to keep your cholesterol and blood pressure down. Maybe even try to do a few squats when you get up to go to the loo, every little bit helps.

  1. I would also include getting an annual physical and some blood work done especially as you get older like myself. 🙂 And always eat right and exercise even if its only 30 minutes a day. Do something.

  2. So many health problems can be avoided by eating well. Like most people, I’m guilty of not doing that. It’s important to eat whole, nutritious foods, instead of processed ones.

  3. These are great tips. I had some serious issues going on that I was completely unaware of because I wasn’t taking the time to get regular checkups. Once identified, I started making a point to take care of me first, so I was able to take better care of everybody else. I purchased some home monitoring equipment to help make sure I’m making the right choices daily and staying on the right track 🙂

  4. This a great summary of things we all should be aware of and checking on a day-to-day basis. Diet, exercise, being mindful of what are body is telling us are fundamental things we should all be doing if we are serious about long term health. Smoking and excessive alcohol are of course big things to avoid.

  5. My husband plays Pokemon all the time on his phone. On his days off, we’ve been taking the bus to different areas around town so that he can play more often with others and do raids. I get to walk and really get some exercise. Sometimes we go hiking while we are out as well. It is great because by taking the bus, I can’t be lazy and make him go get the car when I get tired. I have to keep going until we are home. But the bus provides breaks in between too. I know myself, and I am generally lazy. So as soon as I even start getting tired, I’ll stop. I have to be smarter than myself. Lol. I’m getting better at making good decisions, and that is a huge step in taking more control of my overall health.

  6. I agree, eating a good, nutritious diet is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. I try to avoid processed foods with unhealthy additives. Thankfully, I’ve never smoked and avoid being around people who do. Second hand smoke is one of the worst things. Smokers know the risks to their own health, but they shouldn’t inflict it on other people.

  7. These are great tips. Making sure to eat properly amd move is always a persons best bet when wanting to maintain their health!

  8. I was thinking that when you include exercise It is good for people to have both a cardio workout and a strength training workout to their routine. Cardio is great for the heart and strength training is great for the bones and muscles.

  9. Often people do not get regular check ups from the doctor unless there is something wrong. It’s good that you have included regular monitoring of any problems here on your list.

  10. I like the list! Short and sweet!! It keeps it from being overwhelming about staying healthy. I think the medical professionals should press that eating healthy (should) also mean avoiding processed food and food filled with sugar!! However, that’s really hard to avoid nowadays!

  11. All these tips are solid advice that can help stop, or reverse, some illnesses. Sadly, I live with type 2 diabetes and it’s no fun; but I’m learning to manage it. I totally agree with closing the gate when the horse is still in the stable – something I neglected to do.

  12. In this day and age I still can’t believe there’s so many people that smoke but I understand that it’s an addiction and so hard to break that cycle

  13. being active, eat healthy, do regular check up – it is simple but it is working esp long term. Thanks for a great reminder today!

  14. I really enjoy this blog! You have brought our that we can use simple steps to improve or keep in control our health. I found in article that talks about our health and other steps we can take. May I share it with you?
